Odd issue with performance with Steam - 378.54_2 - Resolved

annihilation

New Around Here
Hi all,

I was hoping that I could get some help with an odd issue I am seeing.

If I run a speedtest I get 152Mb/s which is what my connection is rated as, the CPU hits about 100% on core1 and 20% on core2 but it works fine.

However if I start a download from steam I only get 22Mb/s but my connection becomes completely unusuable for anything else. Strangely though the CPU is only at around 10%, but the GUI and other functions are slower.

Has anyone else seen these types of performance issues in this version or others?

I am going to roll back a generation to see if it helps too.

Regards,
Annih

Well this is stupid - Turns out it was the switch causing the issue. A firmware upgrade and it seems to have resolved itself.

The last major steam update changed the network bandwidth settings in steam back to their defaults. I had to change the download center and maximum rate back to their appropriate settings (in the steam client options).
