Hi

I had the same problem as you and my house got off of the internet for a couple of hours, since I have ip cams / alarms and more devices that need the link to work properly, I did a reset and I am using in ''normal'' mode, wireless router and one AP with the IP fixed, everything is fine, no problem, no delay, no drops, no ISP speed dropping, one day AI MESH will do all of this with no bugs, let´s wait, this problems make part of the process

Thanks hotsauce. I'm giving it another day or so. I've currently been "up" without issue for roughly 24 hours. The longest stretch yet; however, my node is showing as connected via wifi even though I have it wired via Ethernet on the WAN port. It's been like this since the last reboot just over a day ago. That part doesn't make any sense to me. Seems like Ethernet for the backhaul would be ideal, so no clue as to why it's reverted to a wifi backhaul. Speeds all seem to be adequate, however my ping to my usual gaming server has gone up from about ~75ms to 90ms. Steady 90ms for the past week when everything's working. Speedtest.net is reporting an average of 95Mbps on a 100Mbps connection. It usually pegs at 100Mb, so not sure what's happening there. This is switching from an RT-AC66U to an RT-AC68U.

I'm going to leave it alone and see what happens. If it starts acting flaky again, I'll likely get frustrated enough to just revert back to router/AP. Really hoping they get this sorted.

Anybody else with wired backhaul seeing it revert back to wifi with setting at "auto"? Tried switching it to Ethernet in the "more config" section, but had a lot of problems. Left it at "auto" when I did the last reset on the node, but even though it showed as wired, it eventually went back to wifi.

I added 2 new DHCP reservations, and lost the node. No way to recover it. Did the complete reset on both routers (AC88U and AC86U), and after some advanced config cannot see it again.

// EDIT: it's MUCH worse :( Trying to search for the node changed my main router Wifi to "OPEN SYSTEM" and deleted the Wifi config.

WTF?
May I know which configure you changed ? Which model is AiMesh router and which one is Node?

1. 2 new DHCP reservation.
Have any others?

If you can provide it, I can try to duplicate it.

My main router is AC88U, node is AC86U.
I added 2 DHCP reservations for some other devices.

But after some testing, it was just coincidence. Node gets deleted randomly when you do enough changes (WAN MAC address, turn on OpenVPN and IPSec, DHCP reservations, SmartConnect, reboot, etc.) and can never be recovered.

If I setup my router as I want, mesh will stop working. Node will dissapear from AC88U and will be impossible to find again.

Only reseting both devices and doing almost no configuration at all preserves it.

Then you change something on main router, and Node is lost forever.

It's useles :(

If you don't want to use Wi-Fi backhaul, change it from AUTO to Ethernet.

Connection Priority
1. Ethernet: if ethernet cable connected physically, the backhaul will be selected Ethernet. If Ethernet cable disconnected physically, the backhaul will be selected Wifi.

2. Auto : base on Path information to select backhaul.

The 2 DHCP reservation is working, correct ?

According to the Node get deleted, is it show Offline or disappear on WebUI?

It disappears. And "Find AiMesh Node" never finds it again.. Until both routers are factory reset :( Then they can connect, but I cannot make any major changes to main router.

According to your changed a lot of configuration, if you can provide your setting file, it will be more easy to figure out what happened.

Can you send a email with system log to router_feedback@asus.com?

In future is it possible force to ethernet only? sometime I need to disconnect the node's network connect and I don't want it switch to wifi

You meant you don't want to use any more after you unplugged Ethernet cable. Correct ?

Hi, the same thing is happening to me with my AC3100. I also wanted to add that after the node "disappears", it shows up as a wired device under Clients. If you reset the node, then it disappears forever until you clear the nvram or initialize the main router. Thanks!

You meant you make the node to reset as default or reboot ?

As in either clearing the nvram or holding down the reset button!

If you manually reset to default in RE, the RE will become a newer one as unmanaged Node. You have to add it again. This is normal...

I have the same situation. Ac88u as aimesh router ac68u as node and when dhcp reservation and a few other changes the node disappears. When accessing the node ip it says it can’t find the aimesh router but the iPad dress is received from the router and I can see the node in the connected devices. Also the behavior of the search changes once the changes were made. Prior, the search can take a while and if not found gives a response telling what to do to connect a node. After changes are made the search is quick and never provides a response, just stops spinning. The only way I was able to get it to work was with a freshly reset aimesh router and node.

Indeed, the main issue is that I should be able to re-add it via Aimesh search, but only by resetting (not rebooting) the main router can this be done.

I would also like to see this. I have the node on Ethernet and never want it to fall back to wireless. If there’s an Ethernet issue I want to deal with that rather than mask it by using wireless. From what I am hearing the nodes tend to jump to wireless too much as it is.
