Oh, those helium hard drives...

I've made some fun about the helium HDDs, usually referring to new case dimensions...

And I'm a big fan of roomy cases where I can get to every part by just removing a single panel. I love the original Compaq desktops - they were like working on an XKE - prop the bonnet open, sit on the front wheel and get to everything... except the stinkin' Master Clutch Reservoir... jeez...OK, get up and sit on the OTHER front tyre-!

And I've swapped out all of our home computers for Rackmounts, simply so I have the freedom to fiddle with any drive, any card, any MB, cooler, etc, without affecting a single other piece.

But being a cultural Robin Hood (steal from the witty, give to the dul - er, not-so-witty), I heard the REAL impact on helium hard-drive leakage:

"Your sound card will go falsetto."

Gee - all the PC tones will sound like a late-night celebrity guest on David Letterman!

Being a hot rod fan, real cars don't have bonnets or hoods.

We have a neighbor who has a fenderless '38 and he uses the tyres for comfortable points-n-plugs replacement, but nothing could help it in corners against the XKE. At the same time, his would start two times in a row. ahem...

Not to mention xke's are equipped with be home by dark lucas. My buddy in HS had a 55xk 120, before that I never knew cars had electrical problems other than dead batteries from parking too long at the drive in..

My first extended drive in the XKE was a 2002 post-midnight drive out of Las Vegas towards Reno, about 2 am. After a couple of hours of no longer seeing traffic, I boosted the speed (just a bit) and after 20 minutes, everything went dead. All needles bounced flat. Outta gas? Nope. Lights went out, too. Ah yes. "Why do Brits like warm beer?" "Because we have Lucas refrigerators."
