OpenVPN and QOS not working simultaneously

Hi,

when I activate QOS while using the openvpn client I can not establish a connection to the internet.

do qos and openvpn cancel each other out or are there any settings that I have overlooked to use QOS and openvpn at the same time?

after playing with settings, sometimes my openvpn server gets borked and requires a reboot. this may be silly to even ask, but have you rebooted since turning QoS on?

The point of using a VPN is to encrypt as well as hide the type of data packets being sent.

QOS on the other hand looks at the data and based on the rules established sets up the priority of their transmission.

Using a VPN defeats QOS rules so maybe the router just gives up and waits until you decide which is most important routing priority or secrecy.

Perhaps if you modify the rules for unclassified traffic under QOS you can force the router to enable both VPN & QOS, but I'm not sure what you will gain.

You were right. I probably did not reboot. I tried it again and then it worked.

Yes, I was thinking the same. I thought that openvpn puts all connections into one tunnel and then qos can not access them anymore and then everything gets stuck.

but it works - this firmware is so awesome.

i haven't had any problems running both simultaneously and only one of the two openvpn servers i'm running would be affected by qos rules (443/tcp)
