OSX 10.9 server as a router

Sorry for my lack of knowledge.

We did this during a training session. Created a 2nd ethernet port on a Mac Mini with an adapter and arranged the settings so the server would be the router.

What is the name for what I want to do so I can start searching the web and manuals to start learning

Are you sure you want to spend time and effort trying to use that approach?

My first response was 'Why ?' You can buy a real router or two for the price of a mac mini.

Or for professional level training, buy an old Cisco or Juniper rotuer on eBay and dive into those arcane command lines.
