Having a issue with my gaming PC
It’s hardwired from a RT-BE88U router 15m cat 7 cable I think ISP is BT 900mbps
Every so often it’s drops to 90mbps and on the Asus web interface it’s shows the yellow warning on the connector
Quick unplug and plug back in PC end gets it back to full speed and it goes back to green

Thinking just replace the cable but anything to check before I do

Thx

15m is nothing beyond a cheap cat5. If that doesn't sort it there could be an application managing the LAN on the PC (many motherboard manufacturers include a management app with the driver) with some kind of power saving in operation.

Thx all doubt it’s the router did same thing on a 2.5G and 1G ports and the BE router is only 3 weeks old

Just ordered a new 15m cable so will see what that does after that might have to get a PCI-E port card

I hope this time you bought cat6 or cat6a cable. Cat7 is not quite a scam but it's pretty close, because roughly 99% of the people who buy it don't understand that they're paying too much to get the wrong thing. Cat7 is made for different termination than standard ethernet connectors. (Don't believe me? See wikipedia.)

It's not impossible that your problem is exactly down to having bought the wrong cable type --- at 15m that starts to matter, though you can frequently get away with it at short cable lengths.

Thx for your reply and advice, I bought a Cat 8 cable not sure if that’s right or wrong but will try and can always return it if it’s still dropping. I did have two power saving things enabled in advance so disabled them now

I bought a Cat 8 cable
Cat8: more cats are not always better (unless you are a Crazy Cat Person?)

It looks like max length for Cat8 is 30M?

Also, I am pretty sure you don't need 8 Cats worth of bandwidth, i.e. 25 to 40 gbps.

OP, monoprice makes good cables.

At 15 meters, about 50 feet, either Cat6 or Cat6A, assuming good quality (no CCA, copper clad aluminum wire inside), you should be able to get 10gbps. You're certainly good for your 1gbps connection.

"Monoprice Cat6A Component Level Ethernet Patch Cable - Pure Bare Copper, UTP, 24AWG, 500MHz, Snagless RJ45, 50ft, Blue"

You do not need shielding, foil, etc, unless you have a hydroelectric generator or EMP device or factory machinery in your home.

Or get a name brand (Belden, there are lots of other good name brands, Panduit, just make sure you don't get CCA and some off brand)

BELDEN | CA21100049
10GX Patch Cord, Bonded-Pair, 4-Pair, 24 AWG Solid, CMR, T568A/B, MOD, Black, 49ft

10GX is Belden's Cat6A. About $63

Comes in different colors:

Or get a custom made, length, color, etc, Cat6A from Blue Jeans Cables:

50 foot cable, multiple colors available, $82.

For Cat 6 and 6a, Belden doesn't sell patch cord stock in its standard catalog (the cables you may be familiar with are designed primarily for "horizontal" use), so we've asked Belden to manufacture special patch-cord-optimized Cat 6 and Cat 6a cable stocks for us which we terminate and sell under the Blue Jeans Cable brand. With all of these cables, we use Sentinel brand RJ-45 connectors, manufactured in York, Pennsylvania.

Again, Cat6A has you covered up to a 10gbps connection. You don't need Cat 7-8-9 or 10.
