Periodic WiFi Failure (AC68R, Alpha 4)

My AC68 wifi seems to go down every ~10 minutes running 374.40 Alpha 4. I regain access to the network on my laptop by turning off and then on the wifi switch or turning off/on Airplane mode on Android and iOS.

I had no issues on 374.39. I flashed 374.40 Beta 3 and factory reset it when I first experienced the issue. Since then, I downgraded to both 374.39 and 374.40 Alpha 4 (factory reset and power cycle after F/W installation) and can't seem to shake the issue.

No services are running (samba, FTP, etc.). I'm not using PPPoE. IPv6 is running. Wired LAN devices don't seem to have connection issues.

Thoughts?

If you are restoring settings from a backup file after reset, don't. Start from scratch after every factory reset.

Also try setting channels manually if you were using 'Auto' previously.

I'm not restoring from backup. My process was:

1) Install firmware.
2) Factory Reset.
3) Configure settings (SSID, DHCP, DNS, NTP).

I just set the channels manually on both bands. I hope it's that simple.

Try playing with the Preamble setting between Short & Long.

I have no WiFi issues with mine - 2xMacbook Pro, 1xWindows 7 Laptop, 1xWindows 7 Desktop (11ac), 5xiPads, 4xiPhones, 2xApple TVs, 1xPhone, 1xPrinter.

I think manually setting the channel did it. Thanks!

I also set the Preamble to Short, and noticed no perceptible change.

So what did you change it to? You talking about channel numbers or channel width?

I find this interesting since I had lots of wireless issues on 374.40b3 on my AC68U. (now back at .39)

I manually specified the channel numbers on 2.4 and 5GHz bands.

I left bandwidth at 20/40MHz (2.4GHz) and 20/40/80MHz (5GHz).

It's back to the rock solid performance I experienced with earlier builds.

I'm holding off on 374.40 until there's a stable Merlin build. I read in another post that it's fixed at Asus with a recent update from Broadcom, so I expect something soon.

Hi,
Some thing like inSSIDer is useful for selecting good channel for the band. I have been on ch. 9 on 2.4GHz for some time and when I ran inSSIDer 4 last night things have changed in the neighborhood. I had to reset it to ch. 1 now. I never use 40MHz b/w on 2.4GHz to swamp the band. Also I noticed some 5GHz signals showing up. I relocated ch. to 149/153. *Additional note, inSSIDer 4 latest update 4.0.2.13 has a bug, don't install this update.l
