Poor wired LAN performance with RT-AC68R

Riptide23

New Around Here
Good day all,

I am experiencing poor LAN performance with my RT-AC68R router. It's been slowly degrading over time. Straight from my cable modem I get 28MB. Through my RT I get 7MB. New cables, everything rebooted, same horrible throughput. When I first upgraded my download bandwidth a year ago I was getting the same 28MB through the router as from the cable modem, so it's not like it's not capable.

I ensured I had the latest FW (3.0.0.4.378_4585). No change. I performed a "factory reset" which didn't revert the firmware. :-/ Maybe I have a different definition for factory reset...

The only changes from initial power-on are new admin pwd, wireless name/password. Nothing else has been touched. I've seen threads discussing wireless performance but none about wired issues. I don't see anything I can change that would even affect this.

Bonus question: Is it worth junking the vendor FW and switching to ASUSWRT? I bought this to replace a Buffalo router I'd flashed to WRT about 4 years ago hoping it would be good enough.

Thanks!

E
