I'd like to expose a local device using port forward to a certain host on the web, let's say it's a X-wave server I want to access from the office. Yes I know I can use VPN but it's not feasible in my case. D-link has a feature to allow only certain hosts or networks to connect to local services connected on the LAN side of the router. Or have I missed something?

Must be done through custom user scripts. Look on the Wiki, there's an example on how to do this.

Any chance you will add access lists to the Asus routers? All that would be required is to add an access list to the router for the approved hosts. Voila the problem is solved.

No plan to at this time.
