Port Forwarding - Reset WAN Link ?

TomT

Regular Contributor
Asus AC68U.

Does configuring and applying port forwarding rules restart the WAN Link ?

If it does will it affect DLM and potentially slow the line ?

Thanks

Anyone have any ideas on this ?

I'd happily pay for a firmware that would allow me to change my port forwarding settings with out having to restart my wan interface..

Only the firewall should be restarting with recent builds. Older builds would reboot the entire router if you had HW acceleration enabled (Asus removed that recently).

Thanks for the replies.

I'm currently running 374.43_2 (Merlin build)

Is there a version you recommend I should upgrade to ?

It's not the entire route that restarts, but it looks like it restarts the WAN interface.

What is hardware acceleration used for ? How do I disable it ?

Thanks again.

374.43_2 is based on older Asus code, it's possible that it still reboots the router if HW acceleration is enabled.

HW acceleration is needed for the RT-N66/AC66 to be able to handle WAN speeds faster than 100-150 Mbits. It can be forced disabled under LAN -> Switch Control.

Thanks :D

Do you have a recommended firmware I should upgrade to ?

Regards

Latest stable version, which is 376.45.

Thanks. Just upgraded to Firmware:376.45 (Merlin build)

I've noticed under Tools -> Sysinfo it shows :

HW acceleration Enabled

Yet this option isn't listed in LAN -> Switch Control

Can you confirm it is off and I won't upset the WAN making port forwarding changes.

Thanks

If the Sysinfo page shows it as enabled, then it's definitely enabled.

The option to force disable it is on the Switch Control page and is called NAT Acceleration in newer versions.

Thanks. I'll disable it and see if that helps.

I thought it had been removed from this build ? !

HW acceleration has always been present in every firmware that I released.

Hi RMerlin

I'd misread you reply!

I'd read that as HW acceleration has been removed

Anyway as I'm using an AC68U I've disabled HW acceleration and spanning tree and enabled jumbo packets.

Seems to be working OK so far. I disabled spanning tree as I have some devices that support multicast and I have seen issues with that in the past.

Thanks
