New Around Here
All,

I recently purchased a Asus RT-N66U router and was a former Tomato firmware user. I originally flashed it with latest TomatoUSB by Shibby version -which was a few years old from 2015 and found I got very poor Wireless power -especially on the 5 G band and was very disappointed especially since I really liked Tomato and had used in on several Routers in the past

I did some research and found out about Asus-wrt Merlin and how they used the original wireless drivers from the Stock Firmware and decided to try it and wow did it make a difference in my wireless range - especially on 5 G
I really like the software and the Gui - beautiful Gui

I have been going through all the features and have used it for about a week now and had a hard time locating the section that shows RX/TX and RSSI at the connected wireless clients as they had in Tomato and thought it was not available but then I finally did locate it in the new software in the section called System log > Wireless log. This gives you a snapshot of the quality of your connection at all of your wireless clients on your network and is very valuable information to have.

However I noticed that the RX portion of the RX/TX RSSI field only seems to display ??? and once in awhile posts a very low number in that field so something seems wrong there - the TX and RSSI field display correctly

I am hoping there may be an easy fix for this or a bug fix in a newer version
as I really miss this working 100 % correctly and am hoping someone else has seen this or has an answer

I believe it to be a bug at this point and I have the newest version of
Asuswrt-Merlin from the website Firmware:380.69_2

Hopefully if this is a bug it can be corrected in newest version update

Thanks !

It's an old issue of this old platform - it will randomly return invalid values. Nothing that can be done about it, this lies within the closed source wireless code, and that platform is no longer actively developed.

Thanks for the quick reply

Is the issue also present in the latest ASUS stock firmware as well ?

Please advise

Thanks !

Yes, those old routers haven't had any wireless driver change in years. They are no longer maintained by Broadcom AFAIK.

This is just a visual issue, it does not affect functionality in any way.

Merlin,

Thanks

The most valuable information to me is the RSSI signal seen by the clients and that still appears accurate (as was almost the same when I had Tomato installed ) - so I am good and will keep my current Asuswrt-Merlin Firmware which I really like with a much improved Wireless signal then I had before

That is all I need

Thank you,

KMN

But it doesn't show you that. Perhaps we have different interpretations of the language being used here. RSSI shows you the strength of the signal received from (not by) the clients as seen by the router.

It does show the RSSI value in dBm just below the RX/TX values, it's the RX value in Mbps that doesn't show up correctly on the RT-N66U.

Yes, we know. That was the original question.
