Possibly bricked my TM-AC1900 while downgrading to RT-AC68U after flashing Merlin?

This makes me concerned reading this. I'm about to get a brand new RT-AC56R and have been advised to install Merlin rather than stock. But reading this makes me think I'll stick with Asus firmware since I don't have need for all the Merlin features etc.

BTW, if anyone wants to help try fix this for me. I can happily ship this to you and pay return shipping.

I was able to get the router to connect on the firmware restoration earlier. And I let it ran for about 1hr and came back to this. The router recovery went all the way to 100% then this popped up:
Long shot.. but looking at your picture it states N66U and you're supposed to be flashing AC68U - Wrong firmware?

You are right. I did flash the wrong firmware the second time but I felt like the router was already toast before that flash.

I have a TM AC1900 is it worth flashing the AC68U firmware.... If so what is gain over stock TM AC1900 firmware it's on the latest firmware from tmobile

And also the possibility to use even more modified firmware like john9527's or hggomes firmware too, if you wish.

TM 'firmware' is for their benefit.

RMerlin (and the forks thereof) are for ours. ;)

Where do I start on getting this flashed... What firmware do u recommend

Where to start? Use search and common sense to make sure you upgrade it properly (I don't have access to any TM router).

The firmware I recommend is the one that works best for you. :)

So, basically try them all and use the best.

To make sure you are testing the firmware properly (and with the least user induced headaches), be sure to follow the link below.

(see the WIKI)

CFE guide (you'll need to change to Asus CFE before you can use anything other than TMobile firmware):

Rundown:

  • Flash to TMobile version .1703 (to get Telnet ability)
  • Pull CFE from router and cut and paste MAC addresses / WPS secret code into blank Asus CFE
  • Flash edited Asus CFE
  • Flash whatever firmware you wish

It's not quite 'that simple' but that's the basic steps.
