Hello I cannot get this to work and have looked around on this forum and have even got some great help on dd-wrt forum but cannot solve my issue...

i have 2 linksys wrt310n routers one is v.1 with up to date linksys firmware other is v.2 v.1 router has Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (07/21/09) std

router 1 which is has linksys firmware is hard wired from one of my 4 ports to my wan port into router 2. Router 2 was set up for an access point following these instructions... http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_Access_Point#How_To_Use_DHCP_to_Set_the_WAP.27s_IP_Address

my goal is to free up 4 more ports for me to use (which i have accomplished successfully) but i also want to increase my range on my wifi using the same ssid i dont care bout 2.4ghz or 5ghz i just want to have a good signal on 2nd half of house...i have searched everywhere and done everything i can come across for the access point settings..even played with a mixture of bridge and client settings but nothing is helping my wifi... .

the guys on the dd-wrt forum are very good but we could not come up with a soultion...if u wanted to take a look here is that forum... http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=74707&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0&sid=8d43efac304787b3fb76879dd8893ce7

thank you all in advance i appreciate it very much. if i left out anything or was confusing please let me know..thanks!

to improve coverage

add an access point which connects by cat5 to a LAN port on your router. Place it closer to the weak signal area. An access point can be purchased or faked using any WiFi router with factory firmware. To fake-configure it,
connect it to the PC or to the network so that you can get to its admin setup.
Turn of DHCP server in it.
Setup SSID and encryption to be same as main router.
Channel can be same as main router unless your WiFi is heavily loaded, then choose 1, 6, or 11.

Save settings.
Connect this fake AP's LAN port to a LAN port on your main router. Do not use the WAN port of the fake AP.

You don't need DD-WRT unless you want to use it. Or you are trying to use WDS (wireless repeater) instead of an access point.

There is a good FAQ on this on the wireless forum of dslreports.com

i have done all of these suggestions and followed. i have turned my linksys router into a dd-wrt controlled router and made all the changes to turn it to an ap it is connected to my other router via ethernet cable

The WRT-310n is very good router with DD-WRT. Where are you at now with your issue. Does everything work? Oh you wanted to increase the range. You can only increase the coverage but doing that might cause more drop in connection or the flip/flop method. DD-WRT you can tweak (over ride) the stock firmware settings. You might cause the unit to heat-up (work harder) then the wireless might start degrading or flip/flop in drop connection. Can only tweak so much before TX/RX errors start to develop. Best to leave the defaults setting and pick one or two more WRT-310n that can work with the DD-WRT firmware you want to use with it.

No need to use DD-WRT for making a generic WiFi router behave as an Access Point. But it can be a learning experience.
