Proper Fresh Install procedure

I see that there is a new 382 version out for the AC68U. I also see that it is recommended to do a Fresh install when jumping from 380 to 382. What is the suggested procedure for doing a fresh install?

I'm thinking: Take screenshots of everything, install 382, then click on Administration/Restore-Save-Upload-Setting/and click Factory Default ... then redo all settings from print screens. Is this correct or am I leaving anything out or doing anything incorrectly?

Thanks

That's one of the methods, yes. You can also test before factory default, if something is wrong.

Some old hands still use pen and paper notes, I still do to some extent, but mostly use Greenshot, a really easy to use, open source screen-grab program many use, which can automate a save to any format or folder you want. Good luck.

Take note also of L&LD’s guide at

I used to manually input my settings using screengrabs of the original ones. That had the benefit of making me aware of any changes due to the update and also to question any settings that weren’t in the default state. It certainly helped me stay reasonably familiar with the web IU. More recently I’ve used John’s NVRAM Save/Restore Utility https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/wiki/NVRAM-Save-Restore-Utility

Well worth considering especially if you want an easy life. And it produces a text file of all your settings, so even if you really wanted to manually input your settings, backing up with the Utility might save you a good hour’s work of screen grabbing every page in the GUI.

martinr, well put, easier is faster is better. I used the Snipping tool for some time, and Gadwin's Print Screen until RMerlin suggested Greenshot. Being able to do it quickly, using only a thumb/finger on the trackball quickly cured me of notes. I still talk-notes, but photos work faster, the way most people are wired, visually.
