QNAP TS-469L or Synology DS412+

After much debate,I have narrowed it down to these two. I am leaning towards the Qnap because of the ability to upgrade the memory to 3gb if needed. I want to get some opinions before I buy though.

Will be used to store my music, videos, bluray,pc backup and use it to monitor a few security cameras.I will also have my WDTV Live Plus (gen3) hooked up to it.

I don't see any reason as to why either would work, but I may be wrong.Let me know what you think. Thanks

Either will work. Memory upgrade helps only for write caching for smaller files. It won't help speed up large file transfers.

Have you used each vendor's on-line NAS demo - to assess ease of use? They may be quite similar.

Consider too, availability of eSATA or USB3 for your backup drive. NASes are all about I/O speeds and a few applications running that aren't memory intensive like MS Windows is with .NET's bytecode interpreter, etc.

I don't think memory size upgrade will be noticeable. Not like MS Windows and .NET with its inefficiencies.

Thanks for the replies. I have tried out the demo for both. They
both have a nice gui, with the qnap reminding me more or a business/corporate
feel. I do like the look of the qnap a little better though.Basicslly
comes down to preference i guess.
