Hiya,

I've been using QOS for a little while on my RT-AC66U and there are 3 devices that seem to completely bypass any QOS rules I define for them. The two IOS devices in the house and my xbox 360. Its actually so bad websites pretty much don't load and steam won't stay connected when they're downloading.

I only have crappy 6/7mb internet. My rules are like this:

Even when set to the lowest, they destroy the internet and use all the bandwidth.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I'm surprised nobody else has replied, so I'll take a stab. I'm no expert, but I've used QOS on Merlin for a couple of years with moderate success.

I suggest you try revising your download Minimum Reserved Bandwidths down so the total of all the categories is 100%. With the setting you show, where the top two bandwidths alone exceed 100%, it may be that there will never be any bandwidth allocated to the lower categories.

It also sounds like you have perhaps set up the QOS to give each device a specific priority. This is a poor idea. The QOS priorities should be according to type of traffic, rather than device. So VOIP traffic should be highest, web surfing lower, file transfers lowest, that sort of thing.

Good luck.

I closed picture of what mine looks like, I have also and some mac address to limited a bunch to lowest and low and few to medium. the combined bandwidth of all category(highest~lowest) does not have to be the total bandwidth, I have and mine set as bellow since i got my ac66u each category

Example
#1My Surface 3 is limited to medium/50% which limits it to 50mbit, if I remove the mac addresss for it will take up 100+mbit
#2Have few Tablets mac address limited to Lowest/5% which is about 5 mbit if I remove the mac address they get 40mbit give or take.
#3 Hopper3 mac address set to low/39% which about 39mbit on vod download, if I remove the mac address it download vod stuff at like 50mbit+

Yes I am aware this supposed to be on demand and if no one is using the bandwidth all device should get full bandwidth, but considering it when I want those % applied people are home and do all kindds stuff on line it all works.

ONly difference is I have optimum online ultra 101 which is like 120/40mbit I just have my QOS set to 100-25

Gathering with those speed you have low speed cable or still dsl? I Can tell you this much even with QOS on when I had DSL which was 3mibt, just loading a graphically heavy website like www.swtor.com was enough to kill the internet and ping on all my devices till that web site was done loading.
