How does the QOS perform on the asus RT-AC66U does it Realy worrk especially for gaming or should I look else where ? there are some other routers that have qos but are Realy bad

It works great. I have 3 kids gaming lol , wow 1 kid streaming netflix , wife who knows what she does, qos does work great .

How would I setup the QOS im new to all this kind of stuff. I can tell u my setup its 2 Xbox 360 which we want more bandwith how do I setup that ? Do I just enable QOS box and that's all?

can anyone on here help me out with Qos

I'm not going to be of much help, since I have it turned off on my AC66U router (and there's no provision to set it on my other one, which is functioning in repeater mode).

I would suggest you first read the FAQ (you'll see the link right on the page in your GUI where you turn QoS on and off. http://support.asus.com/Search/KDetail.aspx?SLanguage=en&no=A96BF68D-98C9-9D26-129A-3D5E596D3073&t=2

This is as good a place as any to begin to understand the settings in the AC66U.

QOS works great. I deleted default rules and use solely for mac id's only. Split up a 50/50Mb/s connection to desired levels at priority setting all totaling 100% of bandwidth. Im not gaming here so I cannot help you there. This is the best QOS I ever had, flawless and does just what I want it to do.

Qos is not workin for me. Lets say my isp gives me 150 down and 20 up , when I set it my pc with Mac adress so that it will get 50 down and 10 up it dosent work. I still get 150 download when doing a speed test but the upload seems to be 10. So why would upload drop but not the download?

QoS on Asus routers only limits the upload speed, (from memory).

The newest QoS in the RT-AC87U is a different implementation of QoS for Asus routers and should respect both up and down limits you choose.

if Qos only works for upload then why is ther a download section on qos what is the purpose of that?

Asus would have to answer that. shrug.

The Asus implementation is QoS, not a traffic shaper. It fixes upload then adjusts the download to try and meet the MINIMUM QoS you set for the download, but will always allocate all the bandwidth that is available.

So, let's say you set the download for 5Mb/s on a 150Mb/s line for a single specific app and then run that app. It sees it's meeting the 5Mb/s min, but it also knows it has a lot of unused bandwidth available so it gives it to the app (no need to waste the available bandwidth).

Now lets say you are running 10 apps, with download QoS ranging from 5Mb/s to 20Mb/s, but totaling 150Mb/s or more on your 150Mb/s service. It gives each app it's upload bandwidth. Now it will use the download QoS bandwidth and priority settings to try and proportionally allocate the remaining available bandwidth to try and meet the desired QoS download values. as best it can.

Also, note that in a speedtest, you don't have upload and download running simultaneously as would happen with multiple apps in the real world.

Asuswrt will always provide full bandwidth to a connection unless something with a higher priority also runs. That means your torrent will run at full speed, until you start streaming a video, at which point the torrent will drop down in speed.

I haven't tested this in years on the older routers, but it was working beautifully when I tested it with Adaptive QoS on the RT-AC87U. Running a speedtest was at full speed, and when it stopped the concurrent torrent went back to nearly filling my line.

If that is the case, why when QOS is enabled, and I test using speednet or similar, can i not hit full speeds?

Dunno, it was working fine for me last time I tested it on my 30 Mbits cable connection. Either your up/down values aren't correctly entered, or you have something else with a similar or higher priority using bandwidth, or your connection is faster than what the router's CPU can handle when NAT acceleration is disabled (necessary for the Traditional QoS implementation).
