Question about DHCP Server

Hello all,

I'm somewhat getting the hang of assigning IP's on my DHCP list on 4 of my computers but I'm having bit of trouble on one of them. The computer in question is connected to a Asus EA-N66 in ethernet adapter mode. When i try to go to assign an ip address for this computer, the config page gives me the MAC ID for the EA-N66 but the IP of the computer behind it. If i manually put in the MAC ID of the computer and change the IP that's behind the EA-N66 it still comes up with the IP address that was automatically obtained before and it doesn't change. Then i tried changing the IP of the EA-N66 and all that does is break the config page and i can't get in and the computer's IP still has the IP that was automatically obtained. Is there something that i'm not doing correctly? thank you so much in advance for the help

Are you doing this on the router? Which one?

I think on the router on the LAN, DHCP server page you would simply choose it from the dropdown list.

Are you setting the starting and ending IP addresses so that you have some free IP's to assign manually?

Hey thanks for the reply, sorry if i wasn't clear I'm doing all the configurations on the router and i do have a start and end IP addresses (from .2 to .30). The thing is when i click on the drop down list i see the mac address for the adapter but with the computer's IP. If I manually enter the mac address for the computer with the IP i want it doesn't change.

With a start and end IP range of .2 to .30, you are using manually assigned IP's .31 and above, correct?

When you manually enter the desired IP, you need to reboot at least the client device to make sure it gets the new IP desired.

Well i was hoping to reserve between .2 to .30 for my devices and everything else can auto assign at .31 and above..I'll try rebooting the device and seeing if that helps i have yet to try that but thank you again

If you want to reserve .2 to .30, then the starting address should be .31 to .254. ;)

Then you should get the results you expect, after a reboot.

And I would recommend a reboot for the router too, when everything seems to be working as you want.

ahhhh ok i had it backwards then when it comes to reserving, awesome I'll try that and go from there. Thank you so much you gave me more things to try.
