Hey guys,

I've finally gotten around to attaching a external hard drive to my RT-N66U router and i got it all set up and i can see it on my network through Network Place but my two questions is...What is "Force as Master Browser" and "Set as WINS server" used for? and am i supposed to have either of them on? Sorry if its a really noob question to ask i never played with those options before :o . Thank you so much in advance

The short answer is:

1) "Force as Master Browser" is not required if you have other Windows PCs/servers on your LAN, especially if you have a dedicated NetBIOS/WINS server. If you don't have a dedicated NetBIOS/WINS server on your LAN (most people don't) setting this to Yes is recommended.

2) "Set as WINS server" is not required in most cases.

Both settings relate to network browsing and resolution of NetBIOS names, i.e. the short network names that Windows uses.
