questions for Asus 88U

New Around Here
Im sure these are simple questions, but I'm new to after market firmware. Just switched from Nighthawk x6 to the Asus 88U because my wifi was so bad. I also need to run a VPN for kodi.

I installed Merlin so that I can do policy based routing and I figured it out, but what is "Block routed clients if tunnel goes down"?

2: If I am running policy based routing, is there a way to make it that if VPN server goes down (I use ipvanish), my devices that are running through the vpn will stay connected to internet through my regular ISP. I also have a netduma router and I noticed that when the IPvanish server goes down, I loose internet and it the only way to get it back is by rebooting router.

3. with the merlin firmware, is there a way to increase the wifi trx? I cant seem to find it and when I was running ddwrt on my netgear, it helped.

Also, since I'm new, can anyone tell me why Merlin is better than ddwrt or tomato? I chose it for the Asus because it was the only thing I can find, but is it better than the other 2

2) If you disable the option you ask about in 1), it will work that way :) That's what "Block routed clients" - if tunnel goes down, those clients will not have Internet access.

3) Power levels cannot be changed by end users, as this is a requirement from regulatory bodies such as the FCC.

Also, since I'm new, can anyone tell me why Merlin is better than ddwrt or tomato? I chose it for the Asus because it was the only thing I can find, but is it better than the other 2

If you need NAT acceleration to reach high WAN speeds such as gigabit, you can't use DD-WRT or Tomato.
