New Around Here
Hello,

First post here but I've already learnt a lot from reading this forum, lots of useful information.

I'm experiencing a problem with my new RT-AC68U and one of my PC's. If the PC is switched off for a while (say 30mins) it instantly connects to the RT-AC68U LAN and WAN upon Windows startup as expected. If I then reboot (or fully power off and on in a short period of time), it will not connect to the LAN instantly on startup - the network icon in the notification area displays a blue circle as it first discovers the network, then changes to a red cross as it is unable to connect. After 5-10 seconds it appears to try again and changes to a yellow exclamation mark as it connects to LAN and another 5 seconds later it will show full internet access.

Again, if I leave the computer off for a while it will connect instantly on next startup.

This behaviour started happening after I swapped my old ISP provided router with new RT-AC68U yesteday, the issue did not happen with the old router. I tested another PC on the LAN and it behaves normally, connecting to LAN and WAN as expected on startup after cold boot and reboot. Both systems are Windows 7 connected via Cat5. I 've actually performed a clean OS install on the machine experiencing the issue which did not make a difference.

It may not sound like a major issue but the system with the issue is my main computer and the slow LAN/WAN connection after reboot causes programs checking for connection to throw error messages which is very annoying.

I'd greatly appreciate if anybody is able to help resolve this.

likely the issue is with the pc. What is the wireless card. what driver are you running? what software is controlling the wireless card (intel/windows/etc...).

you may be able to solve the issue by setting up the router to give the computer a specific ip instead of dhcp.

Not quite the same issue, but I had a problem with one PC's motherboard based Atheros gigabit ehternet that worked fine until I rebooted the router and then it would never connect again until I rebooted the PC. I tried updating drivers and dealt with it for awhile and finally just bought Intel gigabit NIC (EXPI9301CTBLK). I have not had any problem since.

I think I've solved it! I realised I only had 100Mbps via Cat5e and traced the problem to poorly made connections in the Cat5e socket. I remade the connection and I'm now back up to 1Gbps. The PC connects properly on startup again.

I wonder if the NIC was attempting to connect at 1Gbps initially, failing, and then reconnecting at 100Mbps.

Something for others to look out for if facing similar problems :)

Had a similar issue at a friends house the other day when I installed an Ac68 router. He gave me a cat5e cable to connect it to his IPS router. And after half an hour of beating my head against the wall, I inspected the cable and it was chewed up what looked like by a rat. He used to have a pet rat.
I tossed the cable in to the trash can and everything was working fine with a brand new cable.
