New Around Here
Hey guys, I regularly read articles from here, so I thought I'd start becoming a regular member. So hello.

I've always liked using an NAS, and have been doing it for years. I'm now getting stuck with a few old NAS boxes I no longer use. In particular, I really like my old Yellow Machine p400T box. It looks good, is well organized, small, uses low power and is very quiet and well ventilated. The problem is the processor is very old and small. It also only has 10/100 ethernet. I'd like to install a new board in it, or if even possible, update the processor, memory and soldered on 8 port ethernet to function as gigabit ethernet. I want to mod this thing to be more of a media server basically, which would be up to date with todays standards (not 4-5 years ago).

So, here are the million dollar questions: Should I keep the unit to make low cost modifications to it? Or am I better off trying to salvage a few bucks from ebay by selling it for 100 max (if I'm lucky)? This is a unit that once sold for over a 1000 in 2007, which is mind boggling to me.

Luckily, (or unfortunately, depending on how you see it) I still have four unused 500gb IDE drives sitting around, so this helps improve my DIY costs tremendously.

Here's more info in case you have no idea about Anthology Solutions, the now defunct business that made this unit. I have the "newest" 2 TB version, made probably right as they were clearing out stock and going bankrupt.. :p
