Reconfigure LAN ports 3/4 for non-IPTV use?

Pardon me if I sound a little lost here... I'm not sure how to begin this question! I've searched best as I could but came up short.

I'm currently using an AC68U using Merlin 374.39. My ISP is Bell Fibe, and my router is directly connected to the Bell fiber box. I've set the VLAN to 35 to make that possible. Everything works perfectly!

Now... LAN ports 3 and 4 seem to be reserved for IPTV use and won't take a computer or switch. I don't have any IPTV or STB and would like to use LAN 3/4 like regular network ports like LAN 1/2 (where one goes to my PC and one goes to a switch).

How does one go about doing this? Are there some commands to run to reprogram those ports for general use?

I've attached a screenshot of what the current LAN config page looks. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong?

Hmm... only interested in using stable firmwares because I have fairly critical services running on my network.

So what exactly was the mod in this firmware? It must just be a command to remap what the LAN ports do. Who made this particular firmware? I bet they would know how it was done.

This is Merlin source code built by me. I modify one line of code in rc/init.c to overcome this problem.

Or, you can check to see whether the newest ASUS firmware has corrected the problem:
3.0.0.4.374.4887
from ASUS download page.

So is it an actual bug or by design? I figured the LAN 3/4 were assigned to do the IPTV/STB stuff and became dedicated for that, hence them not working. So whatever changes you made to compile the firmware can't be done after the fact? I don't want to bug you for custom firmware every time there's a new build!

I won't try the new ASUS beta firmware yet since I require stability like a six-legged chair :D

Can't you just set the ISP profile and port to "None"?

It's a bug in ASUS firmware and didn't fixed now. I've tried, the new beta one also cannot solve your issue. I am now using merlin's source and change only one line in the rc/init.c source code. L2362.

johnnyboy,

Did you let Merlin or Asus know about this? They might as well incorporate this bug fix into any future builds! Of course, you should get the credit!

I have told ASUS about this issue, and give them the method I overcome the problem. They seem didn't care about it :) Maybe my way is not the right one.;)
