By default, it looks like the firmware wants to use port 8443 for remote (wan) access. It even shows me the link to use, but the dynamic link doesn't work. I tried the actual IP from remote (and local) and it doesn't load the login page. It basically gives a "page cannot be reached" type of error in the web browser.

I tried to change it to another port (say 8080 or 8888 or whatever). When I click save, the dynamic link updates (I see if for a split second) as it applies the changes and then logs me out. I log back in and the port is set back to 8443.

"Enable Web Access from WAN" is enabled.

I'm using fw 382.1 with a RT-AC88U.

I hope this is enough info and is clear enough for someone to help me.
 
As far as I know, fw 382.1 only allows HTTPS access from WAN. Also use VPN, it's more secure.

Using this method is not recommended (see previous response). Anyway, if you want to persist, did you correctly redirect the port in port fwd ?
