Not sure if this is the right place but here goes -made a copy in case you tell me to post elsewhere

I have an Asus 68uwithMerlin which has two options to set up remote access to my network -VPN server and Ai cloud. I will be several thousand miles away from my girlfriend for a while who is not computer literate so I need to be able to remotely connect to my network where she is and be able to do more or less anything I could do on her computer as if I was there including installing programs, running chkdsk etc.Can I do this with either of the above or do I need to install a teamviewer like program (I actually think teamviewer is probably too difficult for her but I know there are simpler alternatives).

Thanks

Teamviewer is actually the simplest, this is what I use with my own customers. You just need to guide the remote user into downloading the "QuickSupport" tool, and execute it. It will give them an ID and a password that they communicate to you, allowing you to remotely access that computer.

Thanks Merlin,

I tried teamviewer some years ago and the every time you wanted to access the client machine you had to generate a code for them to enter. Is that still the same?

If you want non-permanent remote access, yes, you have to manually run the client, and provide the current ID and password. However, you can also install the full-featured TeamViewer client, and configure it for unattended remote access, in which case you will get a permanent ID and password to connect with.

It's free for personal use. Either as TeamViewer Host or part of the "normal" TeamViewer installation. All the details are on their website.

Thanks I have tried V12 (I had a much earlier version before) and it seems fine I can even access my ASUS router setup via it (and my NAS).

I have only one thought. I think TeamViewer uses HTTPs for encryption so:

1. How good is HTTPs compared to open VPN? (here's a forum about TeamViewer Security - https://security.stackexchange.com/...ecure-is-teamviewer-for-simple-remote-support

2. Ai cloud also uses HTTPs (which I haven't tried yet)so what's the difference? ACTUALLY just answered my own Q2 - Team viewer can be deployed cross platform and cross location (ie it is independent of the router make). Ai cloud can only be used to access clients of an ASUS router.

Thanks

Just put it on my gf Android Mobile phone too - works really well although now she's worried that while I'm away I'll make calls on her mobile account from her phone. o_O

Thanks for your help and patience
