New Around Here
Hey there,

is there any way to connect to the router (e.g. via tcp, so not using the web interface) and send requests/commands like starting or deactivating the guest network, setting network passwords or names, and so on?

The reason for that is that we're using a network control system, which automatically manages our network and we would like to add some basic router control functionality to it like activating the guest network of our Asus RT-N66U.

Is there a way to achieve this with Asuswrt-Merlin?

Technically yes, but nothing of this is documented since it involves using internal nvram settings and service names that are private, and likely to change at any time. So consider it as being officially unsupported.
