New Around Here
Tim,
I'm hoping that you can review Apple's new Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server.
Here's the basic specs:
2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB RAM
Dual 500GB hard drives
Gigabyte NIC
External DVD/CD Burner
Cost: $1,100
For extra storage you could add the:
Promise SmartStor DS4600 4x1TB RAID System ($800)
I know you've already reviewed the Promise SmartStor:

The new Mac mini server could work for variety of scenarios that have been mentioned in the forums:
Here's a good basic review of the server from one of the co-location service providers, which one could use to create a "private" cloud for your data.

- Supporting mix PC/MAC environments.
- Backup.
- File/Print Server.
- Domain Controller (with no client access licenses to purchase!).
- Remote Access to files/folders.
- Run MACs in diskless mode (no internal hard drive) of the server.
- iPhone integration and deployment services.
