Hi,
My current network setup has an Asus RT-AC66U with latest Merlin firmware connecting via WAN port to a LAN port on an Asus DSL-AC66U. Currently both routers are running WiFi. Clients that wish to access the internet via the ISP, connect to the DSL router. Clients that wish to connect via OpenVPN, connect to the RT router.
The idea that I would like to put in place, is everyone connecting to the RT router by setting up guest networks on both 2.4 and 5GHz and disabling the WiFi networks on the DSL router altogether. I have set up a guest network for testing only at this stage. And having read up on custom scripts and configs, have followed both guides at https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-me...or-VPN-and-SSID-for-Regular-ISP-using-OpenVPN. and https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-me...dicated-DHCP-options-bind-to-a-specific-SSID?
I initially tried the first guide as that seemed to be exactly what I needed. Upon setting the files up and file permissions, I rebooted the router and the system log reported the DHCP IP range as being set up. However, once connecting to the test guest network, I seemed to be receiving an IP address from the original range as declared within the router administration settings. I tried several reboots and refreshing the jffs partition without any success.
I then discovered the second guide above, thinking that I could apply the DHCP server options to the SSID declared on the guest networks and then use that range in the policy routing settings on the OpenVPN client setup page. System logs did not show the IP range as being created, however I did see "dnsmasq-dhcp: Configure wl0.1 to have special DHCP". I also noted a route to a new subnet which I declared in the dnsmasq.conf file. Unfortunately, when connecting to the guest network, I was still receiving an IP address from the default DHCP range.
I don't know if, I have completely missed something so obvious that would put this all in to place. Or maybe I just don't understand what it is that's happening. I would like to get all network traffic running through this one router and it would require the use of a guest network as we have regular visitors and to set up individual static IP addresses would be time consuming. I also would like for all traffic to go via the RT router as the network monitoring on the Merlin firmware has really impressed me.
If anyone could provide any assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.
