Hi, I'm sending my rt-n56u in for repair or replacement. I'm concerned about the security of my passwords, etc. I restored the unit to factory default. Is this sufficient? I don't want to have to tell all my family and roomies they have to start using new passwords if I don't have to when I get the router back from Asus. Thanks.

Factory defaults removes all information that you entered so the answer is yes you are safe.

Even if you didn't reset the router, your repaired unit will be reset back to default. The chances of someone using your password info to log in to your router, are 1:1billion.

Plus Asus doesn't keep a log of your passwords. It gets reset as soon as it gets powered up.

You don't have anything to worry about.
