router.asus.com stopped working | 4G-AC86U

Hello there, fellow Asus users;

I am having a problem with my Asus router and I just can't figure it out. When trying to access my Router's web GUI with "https://router.asus.comORT" on my Windows PC (Which worked just fine a few weeks ago) I receive a NXDOMAIN on my browser (I tested with Chrome and Edge). However, using the actual router's IPORT works just fine, and using the router.asus.com URL on my mobile phone works too. At first I googled and someone claimed that CloudFlare DnsOverHttps (Which I recently enabled in Chrome) can cause issues so I tried to disable it. No luck. Even rebooted after disabling to make sure. I also checked for some Firewall rule just in case but the Firewall doesn't seem to block it either. I don't remember changing anything else in Windows so I don't know anymore what steps I could try to fix the issue. Does anyone else have a suggestion? Thanks to all of you in advance!

May help others diagnose if you include your router model and firmware version. Does using www.asusrouter.com do anything (if using Asus-Merlin firmware)?

Thank you for making me aware of this. I wanted to add router details, but I forgot. I edited the original post to include this information. Unfortunately the 4g-AC86U doesn't have AsusWRT-Merlin, so I am on stock firmware.

Try the default IP address of 192.168.50.1


http://asusrouter.com will work with Asus firmware.

Okay, so I think I fixed it. Somehow, router.asus.com does not work with a custom DNS server anymore, so what I did is I set the primary DNS server to be DoH encrypted Cloudflare, but I set the secondary DNS server to my ISP assigned unencrypted IP. That way, whenever I visit router.asus.com and Cloudflare fails the secondary DNS server takes over and loads the page. Not ideal, but the best I could do. If anyone knows more and/or has a better solution to the issue tougj, I would highly appreciate it.

Post a screenshot of your LAN DHCP Server page (DNS section) and your DNS Director page. Clients must use the router IP for DNS for these special hostnames to work as expected.

Depending on the model, there are multiple options for the local GUI:
router.asus.com
www.asusrouter.com
www.asusnetwork.net

There was awhile where some force HTTPS list in Firefox blocked router.asus.com. The Android Firefox on my phone no longer works with router.asus.com for some reason, but on the desktop (same version of Firefox), it does.
