Router for Wireless Bridge with Asus RT-N66U?

I'm getting an ASUS RT-N66U router. I need to purchase a second router to set up a wireless bridge. I'll load tomato firmware on the N66U router, and would like to load the same firmware onto the second router.

What would be the best router to get to pair up with the N66U as a wireless bridge?

I cannot afford to purchase a second N66U. I'll be using it to stream movies from an NAS connected to the N66U, mostly SD DVD rips (MPEG2, identical file size to the original DVD), some HD rips. So, the throughput needs to be good.

Any suggestion you have is appreciated.

I haven't seen any WiFi routers that can also be a bridge.
More often, they are sold as other kinds of WiFi devices or as an XBox type adapter.

That's why I noted that I would be loading Tomato firmware on both routers.
As long as you can get Tomato or DD-WRT on both routers, you can use them to create a Wireless Bridge.

Any suggestions for a less expensive Tomato-capable router to use to create a stable Wireless Bridge?

There are lots of bridges available that aren't as expensve as a good router. Not sure why you need to run tomato on your bridge? I'm using tomato on my router and it's great, but I have a bridge that just keeps on working that has the manufacturer's original firmware. Haven't had a problem with it in a couple of years now, seldom think about it since it just works.

I'm not trying to talk you out of it, just curious.

Because I'm trying to stream video, I'd like to aim for the best connection possible. I know that the best is to have two identical wireless routers for the wireless bridge. But because I can't afford two Asus N66U's, I was hoping to find out if others have had experience pairing up two routers like this.

I'm certainly open to purchasing a dedicated wireless bridge, so if anyone knows which one would work best with the N66U, I'd appreciate any advice.

Are you looking to have a wireless bridge at the 2.4Ghz band or 5ghz band? 150Mbps good enough? 300Mbps or 450Mbps? Price range? These will limit your choices.

Not sure if it's true, but another user told me before it's best to stick to the same chipset or at least chipset manufacturer for bridging. If true, since N66U uses Broadcom, I'd consider another Broadcom based device.

The EA-66 looks sweet. Right now, I'm using a Linksys WET610N bridge with my RT-N66U on the 5 GHz band and it works very well with my Slingbox. Linksys also makes a newer four port bridge.

I'm using a Dlink DAP 1522 with the RT.N66 and they play well together . Using the same settings i had with netgear 3700 and it hooked up instantly , get a great connection in 5ghz , streams blu ray no problem , and it has 4 lan ports . The trendnet bridge looks good as well , also has 4 ports tew 680ms should work well with rt n-66
