Router reset to factory settings after power cut ?

Hello everyone !

This week-end, I cut the power off to perform work in the house. I've been doing that about every other weekend or so for the past few months. I've never encountered any issue when restoring power until this week-end: my router had reset to factory settings (with merlin firmware still there of course).

Is this normal behavior ? What went wrong this time that didn't before ? Shall I turn the router off by pressing the button before cutting the power off ?

(yes, my router is on the same circuit as the room where I'm working)

Thank you !

Router: RT AC66-U
Firmware: Merlin 378.55

I've heard a few similar reports that occured after an unexpected power failure. I suspect it could be the power fluctuations at the time the router loses power / gets re-powered again causing it. It would be safer to unplug it first, especially if it's not plugged to a quality power bar with a line filter.

Indeed I'm probably using a cheap chinese power bar. I'll certainly turn the router off next time.

Thanks a lot for your explanation and your continued work on this awesome firmware ! ;-)
