I have a RP-AC68U in repeater mode to extend signal to a room with poor WiFi signal. Specifically I have a Mitsubishi split air conditioner that connects wirelessly with a wifi adapter that connects to a router by way of WPS button. Is the WPS button on the RP-AC68U solely for connecting to the router or can I use it to connect to a device like this adapter with a WPS button?

I have been unsuccessful in connecting to this Mitsubishi kumo cloud wifi adapter by way of pressing both the WPS on the device and on the RP-AC68U, so thought perhaps the WPS on the repeater only works to connect to router not adapters. I realize that any help with the mitsubishi adapter is beyond the scope of this forum.

Thank you for any guidance.

Try the WPS session to the primary router, in repeater mode, the Asus is not the authenticator, the primary is...

Ah, OK. I'm not there now but will check ASAP. That makes a lot of sense. Thank you for your help.

It might or might not work with a repeater, FWIW, depends on how it's implemented - might have to do it manually for the WPA2 passphrase, but give it a try from the primary...

You've probably figured this out by now (since I'm just now reading your post, months after it was first posted, but it's my understanding that the way the firmware is set up on the RP-AC68U Repeater is that the WPS button on the Repeater only works to connecting the Repeater itself to the main router and that it is not designed to be used to connect client devices to the Repeater. I have no idea why Asus would build in such a limitation, but the very minimal documentation seems to say that this is the case. In other words, since the Repeater is a "client" of the main router to which it is connecting, the WPS only works to connect the Repeater, as a client device.

If I'm reading SFX2000's post right, I think that's also what he said, but much more succinctly than me.
