New Around Here
Hi,
Searched and couldn't find any posting on the Asus RP-N53 Repeater but I'm hoping some kind folks can help me here..

I have a RP-N53 Repeater that I connect to the Asus RT-N66U. I am unable to get the N53 to connect to the N66U on the 5Ghz range, even when the N53 is placed 1m away from the N66U.

When I use the N53's QIS to detect networks, it is able to detect the SSID (eg Home) of the N66U at 2.4ghz, but not the 5ghz SSID (Home5G which is also broadcasting).

I am able to connect to the 5ghz Home5G directly so I know the N66U 5Ghz is working. But the repeater does not detect the Home5G SSID (It detects only Home).

In the Network Map of the N53, it shows Connected to Home (2.4Ghz). In Repeater Mode, it shows 2.4Ghz (Home_RPT), bandwidth 20/40Mhz, Channel 6, with IP and MAC addresses. For 5Ghz (Home_RPT5G) it shows 20/40Mhz, Channel 36 and IP/MAC addresses. On the N53 blue LED display it shows only a strong signal for 2.4Ghz and no LED lit up for 5Ghz. I do not see Home_RPT5G being broadcast when checked on any of my devices (via Wifi Analyzer and InSSIDer).

Under System Log - Wireless Log, it shows 5G with Mac address and Phy Mode: 11a/n Channel 36.
Using InSSIDer on the PC, only 5Ghz from N66U, 2.4Hgz from N66U, and 2.4ghz from N53 can be detected.

How can I get the N53 to recognise the broadcasting 5Ghz Home5G, and repeat the signal at 5Ghz as well? Any ideas?

Damn i hope someone comes with a solution.
i got the exact same problem. On the 2.4 Ghz it works fine.
but my RP-N53 wont find my 5 Ghz even though my router does send its signal of it.
I emailed Asus Support about it, but they didnt have a solution.
Because they never experienced it with someone else.
So they forwarded the Problem to Taiwan .
i translated it from Dutch ..

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your email.

I will forward this issue to our engineers in Taiwan.
It is possible that they have a solution for this, or to make.

Once I get feedback, I will inform you accordingly.

'Glad' to know , there are more people, so they can take is seriously..I only got the Extender a Week :(

like here, on the screenshot i took. from youtube from some doing a review of Asus personnel. At first use, the RP-N53 sends out a 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghz.
with mine i only recieve 2.4 Ghz.
And both my Rp-N53 and my Router RT-AC66U are on the Most recent Firmwares.

And the strange thing is, in the beginning i actually had 5 GHZ on my RP-N53.
but the signal dropped from time to time. And after a while the 5 Ghz vanished .

like here on the second Screenshot i took on my Iphone 5

Hi,

Dont bother looking for a solution. I had the same problem, sent it to the service centre, they replace a new one for me. Its working fine now.

Im beginning to think, that your probably right. ill contact Asus next monday... :(

I also have problems with the RP-N53. It only connects to 2.4 Ghz. Sometimes it does find the 5Ghz, but it disapears after a while, leaving only the 2.4 Ghz operational.

After a couple of days I have to reset the whole thing, becasue it doesn't accept connections at all anymore....:confused:

Advise from Asus was to upgrade to the latest firmware, but this didn't help at all....

I signed up just to respond to this thread even though it is a couple of years old.
Newegg recently had a blowout on these RP-N53 so I purchased one and unfortunately let it sit around for a few weeks so that when I discovered the issues I couldn't return it.

I too can't get it to detect my 5GHz network even though my laptop and android phone can detect them fine from the same location.

I got an RMA and sent it back to ASUS and the sent me another one which was clearly refurbished and had a nice scratch down the glossy front of the casing - they refused to provide an adequate description of the problem they detected or what they did to verify this one working. Additionally they refused to properly explain why I sent them in effect a brand new, cosmetically perfect unit and they sent me back a scratch and dent.

Worse yet - I let this replacement sit in the box for a couple of weeks and when I went to use it - SAME ISSUE! ASUS now has stopped responding to me at all.

What a piece of junk.

A similar situation, router number 1 AC68, router number 2 N66 acting as wireless repeater, when i did the wifi scan with the N66 i didn't see the 5ghz from my AC68 (or my neighbour's 5ghz ), the N66 only saw all the 2.4's. I had to manually type in the 5ghz name and password which i wanted from the AC68, it did then connect and has been solid ever since.

Paul.
