RT-AC3200 with Asuswrt-Merlin 378.56_2 - Cannot connect to NAS

Alephnull

New Around Here
Hi,

I'm new here. I replaced an existing ASUS RT-AC66U with an AS RT-AC3200 and flashed to Asuswrt-Merlin 378.56_2. Now I cannot see or connect to my NAS from my Win7 or Win8 machine. I can see the NAS in the router client list with the correct IP address (I have it on the static IP list) and connect to the web interface and login. The Win7 machine and Win8 machine see each other without issues and connect to the internet. I just cannot connect to any of the shares on the NAS.

I have reset to factory default a couple of times and it will work fine (i.e. show me the NAS) for the first couple of reboots of the computer but invariably it will revert to not allowing me to connect to the NAS. All the network protection stuff is off.

The reason I think that this pertains to the RT-AC3200 is that when having this problem, if I replace the router with my old RT-AC66U (Asus stock firmware) and make no other changes, everything goes back to being fine.

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks.

No one has encountered this issue before?

I got pretty desperate and have reinstalled my old RT-AC66U and everything has gone back to normal.

I would still like to know why the R$T-AC3200 was giving me thins problem. Is there any additional information I could provide that would be helpful in some one providing me with some insight?

Would it make sense to reset the RT-AC3200 to factory default, revert to the stock ASUS firmware and then upload the config file from the RT-AC66U? Is that even possible? I noticed that the latest ASUS firmware versions for both routers are the same.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It makes NO sense to flash a backup config file from one model router to another, even if they are both at the same version number firmware today.

Same here with RT68U on 378.56_2... strange

I flashed the RT-AC3200 to the newest ASUS firmware (378.9313), reset to factory default and did all the settings again. Every thing works now and I can see my NAS. I have not worked up the courage to flash back to the latest Merlin version!

Disable the Samba option in AiCloud, it is switched on by default. This solved my issue with my NAS.

I bet aicloud's attempts at connecting with the NAS are triggering some security measure on the NAS.

I did finally flash to Merlin 378.56_2. The result was the same. I lost my connection to my NAS again. When I flashed back to the stock firmware 378.9313, it restored the connection to the NAS.

Couple of things,
1. Being a newbie, can someone tell me how to disable the samba option in AiCloud? I could not find any such setting when I logged into the router
2. Why is this a problem in the Merlin build and not in the stock firmware? Is AiCloud doing something different in the Merlin firmware as compared to the stock version?

Thanks to all for all the help and your patience. I'm learning.
