RT-AC58U (RT-ACRH13) - 5GHz disconnections

Volt

Hi! I'm constantly having connection issues with my Galaxy A40 when using 5GHz AC on RT-AC58U (2.4G works perfectly fine). When A40 is located in the area with a weak WiFi signal, an exclamation mark often appears next to the WiFi icon (which is perfectly fine), but when the phone is returned to the area with a strong signal, this exclamation mark often does not go away and A40 does not reconnect to the Internet (it shows the "Connected without Internet" message). However, sometimes this problem occurs even in the areas where the signal is pretty good. Turning WiFi off and then back on fixes the problem until the next time.

Besides, when this situation occurs, some other clients connected to 5GHz (both AC and N) often drop connection for some time or have degraded WiFi performance, which is restored after a minute or two. The strange thing is that the smartphone actually stays connected to the router (both the router and the smartphone report the connection speeds), but the connection is never restored. This issue started occurring on all firmwares starting with version 3.0.0.4.382.51899 (currently, I'm using the latest version 3.0.0.4.382.52243), that is 3.0.0.4.380.8375 and previous versions work without problems. I've also noticed with these later versions that, when A40 connects to Wifi, the following message appears in the log: [DEBUG]:skip vht opmode notification (change channel, number of spatial streams(NSS),or both). This message does not appear for other AC clients. When the connection is dropped, no messages appear in the log.

I've tried all possible combinations of WiFi parameters, switched to fixed channels, disabled beamforming and MU-MIMO, reset my phone, even tried another A40 - nothing helps. I've google for this problem, and it seems that other people are experiencing similar issues with later firmware versions. Has anyone encountered a similar situation? What else could be causing this problem? Thanks in advance.

It is is pretty often when users are having the same issue. Like every new product, AC87u was the pioneer in including MU-MIMO and Beamforming in their chipset, so things didn’t work well for the first time. I have the same issue since I upgraded to the latest Merlin firmware. I will downgrade to see if I can solve the issue if not I will get the AC86u.
