I cannot get this router to boot up properly. I came back from a trip and the internet had stopped working. My fibre BT box indicated all was OK so I rebooted the ASUS and nothing happens - no lights come on and no network connection.

If I leave it plugged in it does get warm so it is not dead. I've tried the reset button at the back but still no joy. Is there anything else I can do or should I return it?

Thanks

Also check the power supply it may have took a dump and not providing the proper voltage or current the router needs to function.

The power button is on. I have since learned that my youngest tripped the electrics by setting fire to our toaster! Apparently, the internet stopped working from that point.

The blue light glows on the plug but the router will not power up properly. It does seem like some power is getting in as the router gets very slightly warm if left.

Any ideas? Thanks

Given that you did have a power problem your best hope for a quick fix is to try a replacement power supply. Power supplies often will pass some power after they have failed and if checked with a voltmeter show the correct voltage. If you have a clamp on ammeter you can try that to see if you are getting the amps required when the power supply is connected to the router.

Other wise you need to find and try a new power supply with the correct tip polarity and correct voltage. The amps provided need to be rated for at least what the current adapter provides. Higher amps is fine as the router will only draw what it needs.

In the future you might want to consider plugging your router and modem into an UPS to protect them from surges and brownouts.

OK thanks. I will see if Asus will send me a replacement power supply. The light on the plug is solid blue though - I thought that it blinked if there was a problem?

No it won't blink if there is a problem and that led takes very little voltage to light up so just because it's lit don't mean the supply is working right.

I got in touch with ASUS and they advised to return via my retailer for repair.

I've just got off the phone to Amazon UK and they have arranged to refund me in full and pick up the router by courier tomorrow. They did offer a straight replacement but could not upgrade but refunded so I could order a newer model. I've just ordered the RT-AC68U from Amazon for roughly the same price so happy days!

Does anyone know if the config file that I saved for my RT-AC66U will be upload-able to the 68?

Thanks,

HB

Don't. The hardware is vastly different, in addition to the MACs and other device-unique parameters.
