RT-AC66U AP / asuswrt-merlin 380.70: Can't set 5 GHz Channel

Running an RT-AC66U (not B1) as AP with asuswrt-merin 380.70 which is the final release for this device.

On the UI, I can set any channel for 5 GHz just fine but after the WiFI subsystem restarts (or whatever it does to apply the changed setting), the channel will be back to "Auto".

I can monitor this on the command line; the related nvram setting gets overwritten.

Not so for the 2.4 GHz channel.

Is anybody facing the same, does this work for anybody? Does this effect relate to any settings?

better to use Johns fork an get updates too.
Is it? Why?

Setting a fixed channel is not exactly the latest feature. My device is an AP and as such, it is not exposed to the evil universe. All I need is performance, settings and a few features.

So why switch to a 374 based firmware -- unless, of course, I can't fix problems otherwise?

because he is still updating ...
ok for AP not most relevant, but still good.
Older wireless drivers got much less problems.

The WiFi seems to perform well, and I would not expect a driver to reset an NVRAM entry (although I could be wrong). I'm more suspecting that another setting resets the channel setting.

I can't reproduce the problem any more. Unfortunately, I have no idea what made the difference.
