Hello All!

Just got this router today, installation was a flash loving it so far Except.... I am attempting to hook up my WD my book studio 2TB drive to my RT-AC66U. I do run a mac.. and it is not mounting the drive. It is recognized (unmounted) but the config untility also says usb is disabled (icon/light is on) .. I put in a 8gb sandisk thumb drive just to see what happens and it picks it up no problem and works fine. Im noticing in the log that it is saying sda unknown partition table? The WD drive is formatted for NTFS.. Any help would be much appreciated.. :)

Make sure the disk uses an MBR partition table.

Otherwise, it might be using 4 KB hardware sectors, which aren't 100% supported by the firmware.

I have also issues with mounting, or sometimes finding the HDD at all, with the latest .29 Merlin firmware it does not see the HDD at all.

I found out that when you connect the HDD to your PC, and chkdsk the drive with chkdsk /R, it will say it cannot be accessed because it is mounted, and it will ask you to demount. If confirmed, and cancel the chkdsk, reconnect to the router, and reboot the router, I got the issue solved sometimes. But it is not an all time winner, it doesn not work all the time.

There is online documentation at asus forums that the mount issue could also be caused by drive errors, by letting chkdsk run and fix some issues with your HDD that previously could have been caused by immediate poweroffs, the errors on the HDD maybe prevent it from being detected or mounted by the router.

It is strange though that it never is a problem with my PC and windows, the HDD always works and is seen then. So it is definetely something that has to do with the routers capability to detect or mount the HDD.
