RT-AC66U Wireless 2.4Ghz Channel fixed to Auto 380.57

New Around Here
I'm using an Asus RT-AC66U router as an Access Point, my main router being an Asus DSL-AC68U.
The problem I was having was that VDSL Internet on the 68U stopped every time after about an hour streaming via the 66U to a Fire TV Stick or Chromecast and would not reconnect to the Internet unless the 66U was rebooted.

So I was toying with trying the DDWRT firmware when I came across this and decided to try upgrading the 66U AP to 380.57 first. Result! I have been able to watch streamed TV with no crashing or loss of Internet - so far.

However, I do have one small problem. It's no biggie really but the Wireless 2.4Ghz Channel number is fixed to Auto and I prefer to set it manually. But if I try to set it to any other channel and click Apply, it always comes back set to Auto.

Is this perhaps a bug?

PS. The 5Ghz Channel can be changed no problem.

I had already but just to be sure, did it again. I discovered that I could set channels 1 to 11 but not 12 or 13 which appear as options. Maybe this is correct? Strange they are options if not actually selectable. Selecting either channels 12 or 13 results in it setting back to Auto.
So I have got around it by setting the 68U to channel 13 and the 66U to channel 1. (Previously the other way around.)

This is know issue with the latest version from Asus which was used by Merlin for his version of the firmware. Asus simply did a to restrictive lock down of the firmware to comply with the regulations! :(

You can try the latest version from the Asus homepage, which should fix this issue - in my case it did not on the AC68U...

Thank you for your reply.

It's a great shame no one seems to have provided any modified firmware for my DSL-AC68U router.

That's because the device is also a DSL modem. I doubt you will ever find anyone who will wright code for a modem/router combo. Not to mention if you ever had ISP issues they would never help you if you installed 3rd party code. o_O

Understood. But I would have thought that someone could simply leave the DSL Modem part of the firmware "as is" and just alter the rest of the settings as on the RT firmwares. :)

Probably not as simple as that to execute.
