RT-AC68 Folder Permissions OSX Mavericks

serious

Occasional Visitor
Hi,

I have a 2tb USB 2.0 drive plugged into my AC68. The drive shows up in Finder as being on the local wireless network just fine. However, when I try to drag files to it wirelessly, Finder asks me to login ("Finder wants to make changes...") and then says I don't have permission.

Weirdly, if I create a new folder on the same drive I can drag and drop files no problem. No prompt for login. It's only preexisting folders on the drive that are a problem.

Looking at Get Info I don't have the ability to change permissions. It just says I have "custom access."

When the same drive is connected directly to my computer, I don't have any permissions issues with any folders on that drive. So I'm trying to figure out why I can't drop files into certain folders when it is plugged into the AC68.

Using Merlin 376.49_5, OSX Mavericks

Under USB Application / AiDisk / Advanced File-Sharing Configuration / Network Place (Samba) do you have Guest Login enabled?

That will bypass any authentication requirement.

Try that and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks Trexx,

I checked and Guest Login is enabled. I can also see that drive is marked as having R/W permissions on all folders.

The login prompt that appears seems to be from OSX. It says "Finder wants to make change. Type your password to allow this."

Unplug the drive from the router and hook it up to your Mac. Select the folder with the issue. Do a 'Get Info'. At the bottom under 'sharing and permissions' make sure 'staff' & 'everyone' is set to read and write. Select the gear icon below that and apply to enclosed items as well. Plug the drive back into your router and try. If it does not work, try rebooting the router and try again. Report results. Hopefully, that works. :)

Thanks you, thank you, thank you. Fixed it! Now I've got the fake NAS (slow-poke USB plugged in a router) I've always dreamed of.

I hadn't been able to resolve this issue for months. I overlooked the "apply to enclosed items" step.

Now everything works! Hopefully this will be a reference for others who stumble upon the same issue.

You're most welcomed. Enjoy!
