Hello,
my router setup isn't quite working properly, DHCP isn't working correctly for guest accounts (and there may be other more subtle problems I haven't detected yet).
Setup:
- both RT-AC68U and RT-AC66U are running firmware 3.0.0.4.374_4561
- I have a cable modem connected to the WAN port on the RT-AC68U
- I have connected a local port on the RT-AC68U with a local port on the RT-AC66U (I recognize this setup may be incorrect, but it _mostly_ seems to work)
- Both of these routers are set to the default "Wireless router mode" (again, this setting may not be correct based on what I need to do)
- The SSID on both routers is identical BUT I have set the Wireless 'Control Channel' on both routers to different channel numbers (so they are no longer set to 'Auto'
- for the above setup to work, I found that I need to disable DHCP on the RT-AC66U router and only have DHCP enabled on the RT-AC68U router, however, a side effect of this is that Wireless guest access on the RT-AC66U does not work unless I temporarily enable DHCP on the RT-AC66U....
To be clear, the network with only the RT-AC68U was working fine, except for two problems:
- I needed to cover a larger physical area to support wireless connections
- I found that the RT-AC68U would occasionally require a reboot (there are lot of wireless devices, including IPTV units)
- so adding the second router in a different physical location, connected by a hard-wired RJ45 cable made a noticeable difference - larger physical wifi coverage area and no more router reboots
- BUT I have this DHCP problem with the wifi guest accounts (and like I said, there may be other more subtle problems that no one has noticed yet)
Most other router settings are the factory defaults, though I do want to set up an iTunes server and NAS server at some point very soon once the above is fixed and tested.
Please help.
Thanks!
