Rt-ac68u not connecting to internet

I have read all about the Asus RT-AC68U and Asuswrt-Merlin firmware,so surprised after following all the steps my router would still not connect.
1. Got username and password for sky fiber/extracted from router
2. Uploaded Asuswrt-Merlin firmware
3. Advance settings
4 WAN
5 Complete username and password as 'zzzzzzzzzz@skydsl I yyyyyyyyy'.
in the last line at the bottom for ISP information
6. MAC address of sky router in MAC CLONE
7. DHCP frequency to normal
8. Apply
STILL wont connect to sky fibre.

Single quote mars on username and password as above?
Am I missing anything? Thought I had read enough to easily do this

Did you try without the password or name?

Did you try restarting the router?

Did you verify the MAC was cloned properly?

I think Sky changed things at some point, they now require another custom argument to be passed. So I simply gave up trying to accommodate all those weird ISP setups, sorry.

Take a look on the Sky support forums, maybe there are other users there who might be able to guide you through it if Sky did change the login requirements.

Did not try without the password, always with the password
Which name? You mean my sky name?
Yes verified MAC was cloned.
Already got password string.
I probably need a step by step guide(leaving no step out) to try., as the frustration is now unbearable.

Sorry, I am not familiar with Sky at all.

Was just throwing some ideas at you to try.

Seems like RMerlin has the best suggestion: call your ISP and ask them what their service needs.

Ask on the Sky forums. I can't help you with foreign ISPs using custom connection requirements, sorry.

it isn't an I between the username and password it is |

ie

username@skydsl|password

no spaces, and a possible 40 minute wait to authenticate
