My syslog is flooded with these messages, which makes the syslog pretty useless.

I have turned off "Free Certificate form (not my typo) Let's Encrypt" in the DDNS setting for the moment which has stopped the issue, but since this option is enabled as default, the issue should be looked into.

Current Version : 3.0.0.4.384.21045

Let's Encrypt is not turned on by default, as it requires DDNS, which isn't either.

So to be exactly clear, Let's Encrypt is the default once DDNS is enabled.
it's the default choice when you enable ddns.
I dont have the issue with that message spam though.
in fact, I haven't had that message in my logs for the last 2 days.
also on 21045 as well.

and your using an RT-AC68U?
both my ac3100 and ac68u dont have the issue. I did power cycle and nvram reset though as I normally would when upgraded firmware.
was testing other issue I have with ai-mesh, and I had swap the 68u n 3100 around.
not seeing that issue with ddns enabled.

last time I got that message was the router not being able to generate proper certificate after enabling ddns, and I think I solve it by power cycle/nvram clear as well.
so if it is not much trouble for you, might wanna give that a try

I also NVRAM and JFFS reset after a firmware update and do not import old config.

Maybe it's a region related issue then or due to another setting, because I have also noticed this in my log which not looks correct:-

Code:
ddns update: ez-ipupdate: starting...
ddns update: asus_private() interface =eth0
ddns update: g_asus_ddns_mode == 2
ddns update: connected to nwsrv-ns1.asus.com (103.10.4.108) on port 80.
ddns update: Asus update entry:: return: HTTP/1.1 203 |deadbeefcafe.asuscomm.com|deadbeefcafe4071.asuscomm.com^M Date: Sat, 02 Jun 2018 18:41:41 GMT^M Server: Apache^M X-Powered-By: PHP/5.6.30^M Content-Length: 2^M Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8^M ^M -1
ddns update: retval= 1, ddns_return_code (,203)
ddns update: asusddns_update: 1
ddns update: exit_main
