Good evening I've just bought this router to get more speed using the openvpn client for my connection with "Nordvpn" I would like to know from you if using Merlin software I will get further speed compared to its original software, and in case what settings should be done .

You will get better OpenVPN performance with my firmware compared to older Asus releases, but the newer firmware should be quite similar in performance now, as Asus applied most of the performance improvements I had implemented for OpenVPN.

Most settings are determined by your service provider.

Today I got the new asus rt-ac86u I connected and tried it is a monster !! I have a 100 mbps connection and with the old netgear r7000 on vpn I went to 30 in up and 20 down with this I go to 85 in up and 20 down with original software propio as you said.
Thanks to you I ordered this router reading on the forum, I was peprendere rt-ac88u but I read that you said that the vpn was better rt-ac86u and so I bought this.

I just received my rt-ac86u installed the latest firmware and set it up with 16 static ip's and QOS. Bufferbloat is excellent and the 4 K streaming is lightning fast. This router absolutely smokes the R7800 from Netgear that I owned for 2 weeks. Range is better and my laptop reconnects immediately (unlike the Netgear router) The stock firmware blows away Netgear stock firmware. I honestly can't see how the R7800 is ranked higher than the AC86u. From actual use I can say it's no contest the Asus RT-AC86u is the king.

Interesting to hear. I had often wondered if the R7800 might be worth trying, but after reading your comments, it sounds like I need not bother.
