RT-AC87R Problem

New Around Here
I need some help I'm using the current firmware 376_2769. I just upgraded my internet to 300mbps down and 20mbps up and I can't seem to get anywhere near that. At times, ill get close to 200mbps (never been past that) and then it'll drop to less that a 100mbps. I'm the 5ghz band already tried changing the channel and no luck.

Any ideas on why its not putting out my full speed? Any help is appreciated.

Did you use a new ssid on the router or forget and re-associate each client?

Do you have QoS or anything else enabled that is disabling NAT acceleration?

Have you turned off the modem and router for at least 10 to 30 minutes and then brought up the modem first and waited for 5 minutes and then turned on the router?

Do you have any other settings you've changed from defaults?

Same ssid I've always had.

No Qos enabled.

Yes modem and router have both been unplugged from the power source before.

All settings are in default.

I was thinking of trying Merlins firmware but im not sure if itll make any difference

I get the impression your testing the rate via the 5 GHz band ?
I would first try the test through a wired port first.

Are you using a desktop, laptop??

Yes I have TW i just purchased a new SB6183 to replace my SB6141 and Im using a mid-2012 Macbook Air

I see you use apple, I am not a big fan of apple, but I get 324 down 24 up, on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz signals. But I also use a PCE-AC68 AC1900 in my gaming rig.

Have you checked the wireless card specs for t your mac book??? I am pretty sure hard wired you get your speeds but it might have something to do with the wireless adapter in the macbook.

Also from experience, TW does some weird stuff when you bring in your own modem.

I am using the cheap arris modem/router that they provided and just told them to put it into bridge mode.

Well it does use an 802.11n and the ethernet adapter i have only goes up to 100mbps. I tried my another macbook pro retina from this year and it got the 300mbps with no problem, but then again it also uses an ac network card.

I personally hate TW they are the worst service I've ever had but I have no choice since they provide the fastest speeds in my area. I've tried that aris but in bridge mode is kept making gaming difficult. The SB6183 is the best modem out there right now it should handle 300mbps with easy but then again im dealing with a crooked company like TW Ive had 6 techs out in less than 6 months for another issue.

Are you playing on console, on your macbooks?? I have never had any issues with TW, I play on pc, and ps4 and dont have any issues. I was using the adaptive QOS with the ac87r, but I noticed that it was causing me issues at times. I now do not use it and everything is stable. I was planning on gettin g that modem that you have but TW will be upgrading there modems with that one next year, so I will wait.

I hope you get it figured out man, I was about to give up on asus routers, I had the ac68p and that nightmare with the new update they did for it. I had issues with this router before but its working now, so we will see if it keeps up.

No I'm on PS4 but with TW modems it became impossible to get into a BF4 lobby so i just reverted back to my own modem and had no problems.

This is my first ASUS router i first purchased the new Linksys but it was giving me incredibly slow speeds then i found this one and its perfect when it works correctly. I think I'm about to give Merlins firmware a try in a bit.

TW said they were getting new modems this month but id rather own my own than pay them more than i should.

Wow, thats weird man, I play on my ps4 and had ni issues ever using their modems.

Yeah try merlins fw, I use to use it too, but it was giving me issues, so now I am on the asus fw and have had no issues at.

To be honest I think its draw of the luck, you etheir get a good working modem, or you get a lemon, I'm on my 3rd ps4 and I am about to send this one in for service again, so that will make it 4?
