RT-AC87U - 380.58 Weird Issues

David Ferguson

New Around Here
Hello 1st Post so i'm not used to all the jargon so forgive me if my explanation is not great!!

I have a strange issue with wired connections not getting on to the internet after a reboot (windows pc's) the wired connection is all connected and IP is all assigned alone with all the relevant gateways and dns stuff.

I have a full connection but if I ping the router I get nothing. Sometimes if I wait for say 3-5 minutes sometimes it will eventually connect but sometimes I have to pull the ethernet cable out then back in and this generally solves the issue (not always).

I have tested the connections directly to the router itself and this also exhibits the same symptoms.

The only thing that's changed recently is that I've moved ISP to VirginMediaBusiness, their router is in bridged mode / router mode so the router has no double nat issues. I was previously with BT Infinity.

I have not tried a complete router wipe yet as I have several port forwarding rules and several MAC static ip's setup.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards
Dave

Use the first link to save your settings (and current firmware) so you can get back to where you are now, quickly.

Use the second link to give you a complete human readable text based output of your settings.

With the above completed and the appropriate files saved (in more than one place); you are free to pursue various options to track down the bugs you're seeing. But as a shortcut, most issues with 380.58 are 'solved' by either using previous stable firmware, or, the alpha builds from Asus or RMerlin (as available).

Thanks for your reply, I've done the following:-

Reboot Router
Flash New Firmware
Reset to Factory Defaults
Go through Wizard and setup WAN (Virgin Modem in Bridge/Modem mode)
Disable various options that are not required.
Reboot Router again

The issue I am having which is the same prior to doing the above is a strange one. All the wireless clients are ok and have no issues.

My Lan connected PC's have issues when they are 1st switched on, when 1st switched on windows is reporting that there is no internet but on inspecting the IP configuration I can see that the IP is all correct including all gateways etc. I can connect to the LAN servers ok but cannot ping the Asus Router on 192.168.1.1 If I leave the pc for a minute or two sometimes it will eventually settle down and eventually I can ping the router and then all is ok and Internet is fine. Other times if I disable the NIC in windows then re-enable it will then connect after a few seconds. I have used a long cable to go directly between the Asus and the PC to eliminate any hubs or cabling and it still happens.

Any other suggestions?

Kind regards
Dave

Reboot Router again

I find that doing a full (hard) reboot and waiting at least 5 minutes and then doing another (hard) reboot after all settings are finalized is required for a glitch free experience. A 'hard' reboot is pulling the power from the router and waiting at least 2 minutes before plugging it back in.

Those 'various' options that you disable may hold a clue for us? Can you give those details?

Are the wired PC's all running the same version of Windows (or another os)? Are they using hdd's or ssd's? Do they have at least 4GB ram? Do they have the latest drivers (or at least the most stable and/or recommended drivers) for the lan?

Have you tried new/known good cables between the router and the PC's?

I hope you are not using a 'hub' in 2016. :)

What switch is used and how long have you had it?
