rt-ac87u and plex don't like each other

Shamcy

New Around Here
Hello everyone

I setup up my new rt-ac87u (updated fw right out of the box to 376_2769) a couple of days ago and since then, I have not been able to view my media library from Plex on Roku.
Before the ac87u, I had the ac66u and it was working just fine.

Any help is much appreciated.

Plex recently pushed an update to the Roku app that broke it for me as well. Within the Roku app/preferences delete all your servers and let it rediscover them.

Do you have any special settings on the router? did you factory reset the router after upgrading the firmware?

Not sure what to tell you, I have a plex server on my 87 and it works fine with my roku 3, my old roku 2, samsung tv, and firetv stick.

Once I took it out of the box, it asked if I wanted to upgrade to latest fw which I did. So I had no special settings on it.

Then I upgraded to the 48_1 custom fw and did a factory reset and still nothing.
I called Asus tech support and the idiot asked me to cycle through the 11 control channels to see which one will work, when none did work, he hung up on me. I really don't want to wait for another 1.5 hours to get through to someone at Asus tech support but I might have to.

Don't mean to be insulting.....but does the Roku show successfully connected to your router SSID? Your last comment seems to imply it's a connection problem and not a plex problem.

Yes the rt87u is online, I have access to the outside world and the Roku is online and all apps are functional. Even Plex on Roku is connected to my server but it can't see any of my library content.

If your plex server is on windows it's likely windows will have detected the new router as a new network and assigned it to public network location rather than home. Try setting it to home in control panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and sharing centre

Try testing connection to plex server from any device other than where the server is running using a browser and connect to http://ip_of_plex_server:32400/web

If the previous suggestion to check the network status doesn't yield anything, another thing to try from a Plex standpoint is to log out / log in to your Plex account on both the Roku and Server.

I've seen reports in the Plex forums that this has cured some problems after the Plex infrastructure was updated for the 'Plex Home' feature.

BTW....are you on the Plex public releases or the PlexPass releases?

Thank you folks. Problem solved.
I ended up creating a new "Home Network" as the one I had was public.
I also went into control panel / network and sharing center / change advanced sharing settings / All Networks / Choose media streaming options and then I allowed sharing of media programs on this PC.
Now I don't know which change fixed the problem but it is fixed.

Is there a draw back for allowing the sharing of media programs on my computer?
That does not mean they are open to the public does it? My router is secure and guests use a guest network, rather than my home network. My guest network does not have access to my intranet.
