The LEDs of the 2 bands are supposed to be off when the 2 radios are disabled. The 2.4 one of my RT-AC87U behaves properly but the 5GHz LED often (not always) will be lit up again after a while after that band is disabled. I find out I can fix this problem by turning off all the LEDs with the On/Off button and then turn them on again.

Does anyone's RT-AC87U (or other Asus router models) exhibit this phenomena?

At this moment, just this alone is not too big a deal. I can tolerate this. It is just somewhat annoying. However, I want to bring this up here in the forum to see if anyone has this experience to make sure this is not a symnpton of some bigger potential problem under development.

Thank you.

You might want to try the latest beta build.

By latest beta build, which one (number) are you referring to exactly?

My router came with 5134 and it did not work on setting up a 5GHz guest network. Subsequently, I have tried the 7410 (the official beta at that time available at Asus' official product website) as well as 7449 (available from an unofficial channel, I suppose) and they both did not work. I did not spend much time with these 3 firmwares as I moved from one to another when I noted the problem. So, I do not know if this 5GHz LED problem was there or not.

I am able to setup a 5GHz guest network with Merlin 378.55 now. It seems quite stable so far (~6 weeks now).
I hesitate to try other Asus beta firmwares like 7944, 8248, 8671 and 8715 as I am afraid to screw up my currently working 5GHz guest network.

I suppose the latest is 8715 which is not in Asus' official product website. So, are you suggest this version?

The diodes sometimes come up when you modify the settings due to reloaded modules. Just push the button again to disable them. It happens to me often, not really a bug.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

I am glad to know that this issue is nothing serious.

October official will release new build and you might want to wait for official release.
