RT-AC87U QOS question
Hey Guys, long time reader...first post.
I've owned a N56U for years, first as a router, then got fios and used used as an Access Point, but cancelled Cable TV and gave the actiontec back. Ran the 56u connected to Verizon ONT for a week or so then upgraded to AC87U.
Frankly I loved the 56u, was rock solid, and for a small router always performed well in my home.
The 87U has been ok but I've noticed a few issues at first.
Biggest problem was some folks whom I share my PLEX account with said performance was so so. Now running a speedtest.net at my house I was about 90/90 (I pay for 75/75), that MUST not be it.
I'm running a constant crashplan backup (It hasn't caught up yet), and that accounts for about 20mbps so that CAN'T be it right?
I started playing with QoS but frankly ASUS documentation for this router is 4 months old and its not really clear.
SO, in particular when talking about Adaptive QoS - WAN/LAN Bandwidth Monitor, how does the "highest", "high", "medium", etc...work. Plex is running on my desktop, would I put that as highest, my qnap running crashplan as high or medium. I'm not worried about crashplan, honestly I'd rather everything else work 100% and that takes whats left over. MOST of the time nothing is being used? I also set bandwith in the QoS to 75/75, even though I'm seeing more.
Also for QOS, I set it to adaptate and put VOIP as first, Video/Audio streaming as second (does this know about plex and does this affect UPLOAD too???), then down the line....
Just trying to get a better understanding.
Thanks!
